If you made a survival guide to life, what are the key ingredients?: My survival guide to life, being balanced and healthy. I do my best to stay active, it makes me happy and it relives stress. It also helps with mentally decompressing. Mostly importantly a daily devotional and talking to God.
What have you learned the most about yourself?: What I have learned most about myself is that I am stubborn as an ox. It can come in handy depending on what the situation is, but it can also stop me from advancing or reaching my full potential. I also have learned that I am a very focused and fearless individual, regardless of how scared I may be, I still go for it.
What is one piece of advice you would give to the future generation?: One piece of advice that I would give the future generation is to follow your instinct. Your instinct is never wrong and it will lead you to when you are supposed to be in the long run. No, it will not always feel good, but it will be worth it.
What's one vice you wish you could give up?: Honestly, I consider going to the gym to be my vice. I know that's not the definition, but I do my best to use my energy to pour my energy back into or to work on things that are positive investments.
What centers you in rough times?: In rough times, listening to gospel or Destiny's Child centers me, while I go for a run or I write in my journal to clear my mind.
Name 3 people in your inner circle: Salyers, Kilpatrick and Ramos - i can be my whole self with them.
.What inspires you?: Life inspires me, people inspire me and pain inspires me, most importantly experiences inspire me. I can make anything out of thin air and make it work. I look at life differently than a lot of people, I see the beauty in the dirt and the movement of nature.
What are your top 3 style influences?: My top 3 style influences are Lenny Kravitz, Prince and anything looks weird or outlandish. I do not particularly like following trends or wearing things that everyone wears. Of course, there are pieces that you need to have, but you always have to make it you're own. These two men have done that at various times in their career and that makes it okay that I can push the envelope… which I should, I can handle and do in this spread.
What is your favorite place to shop?: Online, lol. I actually try and focus on new designers, black gay designers specifically. I believe you should support those who represent who you are and these designers take risk and I love putting on something that would scare someone else.
What is the kindest thing a stranger has ever done for you?: The kindest thing a stranger has ever done for me is, say that my voice was anointed and at the time, I was insecure about my voice and the sounds that came out. I was even shocked that she said something to me, I blushed and said thank you, but I take that moment with me because I needed it to keep going forward on this journey.
What is the first thing you do when you wake up?: Honestly... Truly. The first thing I do when I wake up and check to see if I have messages, then I pray and say thank you for everything that is coming, happening, has gone and the things that are planned for. Gratitude is on the top of my list.
What is the last thing you do before you sleep?: The last thing I do before I go to sleep is listen music and then pray. I usually fall asleep in the mist of the pray, but God knows my heart.
What keeps you motivated?: This is good, I stay motivated by the call that I have had since I was a kid. The foresight that was given to me in a dream that I can not let go. When I tried to run from music and singing it literally found me and so I vowed to myself to never stop until I get to the top.
Name 3 Goals you would like to achieve: Three goals I would like to achieve, helping other black men and gay black boys, men see how special and magically they are. Second, performing at Madison Square Garden to a sold-out crowd. Last, to show those who are scared that is possible to be successful when you follow your dreams.
Name 3 places you would like to visit but have not: I would love to visit Africa, specifically Eygpt, Vietnam rainforest and Bali. Three places that seem like paradise.
What do you like to do in your spare time?: In my spare time, I watch golden girls and living single, well they watch me, but I like to relax and recharge. I might even grab me a book, I am currently reading Toure' Roberts, "Wholeness".
What would you like people to remember about you?: I would like for people to remember the song in my heart. I know that seems very abstract, but there's a passion for music that I can not fully explain, but I know when you hear my song you will at least partly understand or connect with the song at the end of the day.
What is one message you would like to give your fans or supporters?: One message that I would like to give my fans and supporters is that everything and anything is possible if you believe. I used to have this message on my wall as a kid that my mom put up, " I believe in me, I believe I can do anything if only I believe." Its been with me ever since and I will pass it along to my children one day.
What is your favorite place to eat?: My favorite place to eat is surrounded but love ones and friends. I love to fellowship and be goofy and random with people close to me. My family has always had big gathers for various holidays and I cherish those moments.
What would be your superpower?: My superpower would be Storms powers from Xmen, I love the weather and I loved her white hair, I was always drawn to her powers and beauty.
If your life were a theme song, name the title: If my life were a theme song, it would be, " Magic Hour". Which is also the name of my Ep, it takes you on a ride of where I have been and where I am going.
Where did you grow up?: I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, East New York, I would be with my cousins or my grandparents. I always have the best summers there.
Were you a good student?: Was I a good student, I mean..... sure. I got the job done, but I would have preferred to be doing something artistic and creative. School used to stress me out.
What is your creative process like?: My creative process is more about letting the creative juices flow, there are things I want to see and I want my fans and supports to feel, but I try and let it be as free-flowing as possible. For example, "Never Come Down", the video, came out from several conversations, but I had already had ideas from see the video in my head.
Who would you like to collaborate with?: I would like to collaborate with JoJo, I just love her voice and her passion its like cream to me. Ever since I heard, 'Leave, Get Out" or "Andre" or even her cover of Anita Bakers, Caught Up in the Rapture.... oowww I get chills when I think about it.
Ronald Canady, has been influenced by the foundation of contemporary R&B, but infused with Gospel and Pop. From the tender age of 7 years old, as an only child, he watched his grandmother sing in the choir and listened to his mother occasionally cover Anita Baker songs with her own separate private performances. The heart and soul of the choir and with raw emotion he and his mother shared singing songs such as, “365 days.” These shared moments ignited his passion for music as an art form and allowed for the recognition of his own talent. Music blossomed within Canady and he later he grew up to perform with an award winning group, “the Jazz Singers.” This experience instilled the dream in him to venture into a solo career. For the past ten years, “Canade” – his artist name and moniker - has performed at open mics, showcases, and talent revues both locally in the greater Atlanta area and NYC.
CANADE cultivates his own sound by challenging the norm. CANADE covers deep cuts and obscure nostalgic gems in his sets that most artists would never even think of. With his complex lyrical content and compelling arrangements, he is getting back to what R&B/Soul music is at its core…. honest and raw. CANADE’s brand is a complete package of complexity and sincerity. His sound is different and atypical of today’s hum drum music not manufactured or copied. It is a compilation of a wide range of influences.
CANADE’s EP MAGIC HOUR is available now on all streaming platforms. It is accompanied with an eye catching visual presentation!
